Fifteenth Season

We are opening on May 8th, the Saturday before Mother's Day, for our fifteenth season. We again have new work by your favorite artists and have added some new ones. As always we have new, fresh and exciting work for you to enjoy. All 95 of our Michigan artists will have original work on display all season. We have added eight new artists and have four artists returning after a year away. The new artists' names are in bold print on the"Our Artists" page. As always we are providing a variety of fine art for our customers and browsers to enjoy.

Hours

We will be open every day from May 8 until the end of
October. Our hours are 10-5 Monday thru Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday.

A New Look

We had the exterior of the gallery painted this spring. It had been 15 years since it had been painted so it was
time. Since I rarely repeat anything it was time for a new
color. the gallery in now a dark red with a golden beige trim. It really looks different and the general opinion is that it looks "fabulous." We agree.

Armand Merizon Death

Armand Merizon died on Good Friday at the age of 90.
He was the dean of the Grand Rapids art community and founder of the Grand Valley Artists organization. The Grand Rapids art Museum had a retrospective exhibit of his work in March and April. A DVD was made a couple of years ago about Armand and his work. We have carried his work for the past 13 years, but unfortunately have none to show this year. He will be missed.

New Artists This Year

We are very excited about our new artists this
year. We have added three new landscape artists, each with a unique style. Michael Maitner paints whimsical buildings in his landscapes. Cathy VanVoorhis has an impressionistic style. Patricia H. Johnson works in both oil and watercolor, and paints many Leelanau County scenes.
We also have added two abstract painters with widely varying styles. Paul Nehring paints a very intricate design in acrylics and Nancy Wolfe works with acrylics (and frequently crayon) and produces elegantly simple paintings.
Nancy McKay from Ann Arbor paints primarily flowers on silk. She adds quilting to some of her work for an unusual effect.
We've also added a blown glass artist, John Riepma, and a jewelry artist who works with metal and lampwork glass, Karen Wolffis.

Lou Wolf Vallance,
who has made fantastic tiles for many years has turned her attention to mixed media. Even though she has been with us for many years as a potter, she has totally new work this year.

Artist Awards

Our artists continue to win awards, have one-person shows, get into new galleries, and be featured in national magazines. All of these accomplishments are posted on the awards window in the gallery as we hear about them.
